The original kitchen had the cooktop in the island, something we try to avoid due to proper ventilation challenges. By relocating it to a side wall, a stainless hood could be used-an aesthetic detail the customer desired. Then, a second sink was added to the island. To further facilitate its prep function, the customer asked for a scrap chute to be installed leading to a trash container below. The dark brown laminate cabinetry was replaced with knotty alder, creating a more natural feel.
Slide-out columns flanking the refrigerator and range top allow for message center boards and spice racks to be easily accessed but hidden when not in use.
